This just goes to show that is a hoax. If it were true there would not be any laws to shut up quitionin what really happened.

The masses won't see it that way, they will see Irving admitting to gas chambers and start believing in the Holocaust even stronger than before. He blew his chance to destroy the Holocaust fable once and for all.

Fear of prison is no excuse for Irving backing down, his cowardice is destroying Revisionism completely. From now on every Jew we argue with will say, "Even David Irving admitted to gas chambers being at Auschwitz"

These statements by Irving's are made under duress, and anyway martyrs get to choose their own martyrdom. It isn't for anyone else to decide how another man acts in such a situation (snitching aside of course), especially someone who has never been through the same test.

Whatever one thinks of what he should have done, one thing is for sure, at the time the holycaust is under a great deal of scrutiny he recanted and that's a feather in the jews skull cap.

I find it difficult for me to judge Irving, because I'm not in his shoes. I understand he's a man in the twilight of his life, and 10 years would basically be a death sentence. You still have to question him disassociating himself from a movement he has dedicated much of his life to. If he was in his 50's and did what he did today, I would have a lesser opinion of him. Either way it shows the hypocrisy of the current situation in Europe which allows blasphemous cartoons about an Islamic prophet to be published, but not any questioning of the holohoax.

The Birdman has some disturbing links on Irving that suggest he is either a Jew or at the very least unethical.

Irving's life work speaks for itself. He does not address the kike issue anywhere in the books of his that I have read. And, actually, no credible historians do as that kike stuff is pure Hollywood fantasy. He avoids addressing it, or just does not address it, because there is nothing to address.

So, the idiotic charge that he has gone back on everything he ever said is a bunch of hog wash, as he never said anything whatsoever on this subject (again, I can only speak for the Irving books I have read). These charges lead me to wonder just how many of his critics here have actually read any of his books, and then, which ones?

He consistently speaks up for Germany and Germans in his books on the lead up to the war and the conduct of it.

Next person(s) to knock Irving for his betrayals, etc., etc, - please do more than exercise your fingers and instead provide a little hard copy to back up your attacks - like for instance - citations from his books?

I don't know anything about his being jew or half jew and I don't know anything about his personal life (ethical charges alluded to above). And, mostly I also don't give a fuck. Why should I? His books are about Hitler, Goring, Himmler, Dresden, The German Air force leading up to and during the war, etc. Why should I care if he is vain, a nice person, jealous of other prominent revisionist historians, etc.? Does it matter whether or not Wagner was a nice person or if Edison was petty? Those kinds of stupid, pointless non-issues only exist in a world where the National Enquirer sets the agenda.

Edward Mulch - the brilliant head of Hitler's Air arm in the final stages of the war - was deemed an 'honorary' Aryan - because he was half a jew. He fought for Germany and was tortured by his jew/american/brit captors after the war. Even if Irving is jew or part jew - his many, many books prove his devotion to Germany and to the truth.

You people attacking him should be ashamed of yourselves and also be dropped into the middle of what he's been through and is going through and then see how much you fucking strut around.

Irving has a wife and four daughters and has already lost most of his life for his courage in standing up for Germany and the truth.

Television and the movies have created a race of idiots.

Anyone who makes a hobby out of those flying shithouses known as pigeons is not okay in my book. His freakin' website shows him parked in front of his computer with one of those winged rats nesting on top of his head.

This is not the face of an Aryan.

As to David being a crypto jew, he has stated that he is NOT a jew and this three year prison sentence should confirm his claims.

As to the question of David's integrity.

Being threatened with a ten year sentence is certainly intimidation. But people are asking has David rolled over? Could he have been tortured into changing his opinion?

FWIW, I don't think that his recent carefully worded statements are that far off the mark from what he has said in the past. We know there were small delousing gas chambers at the concentration camps, purposely(?) he gives no specification as to delousing vs homicidal gas chambers in his recent statements, also I noticed he did not concede to the six million figure but rather a "Millions of Jews died" figure. See David's quotes below:

Irving admits Holocaust 'mistake' February 2006

...Asked if he admitted the existence of the Holocaust, he replied: "I would call it the Jewish tragedy in World War II." "Yes, there were gas chambers," he said. "Millions of Jews died, there is no question. I don't know the figures. I'm not an expert on the Holocaust."...

Ron Casey Interviews David Irving July 1995

Casey: What is your estimate of the number of Jews who died at the hands of Hitler's regime in the war years? What number - and I don't like using this word - what number would you concede were killed in concentration camps?

Irving: I think, like any scientist, I'd have to give you a range of figures and I'd have to say a minimum of one million, which is a monstrous crime, and a maximum of about four million, depending on what you mean by killed. If putting people into a concentration camps where they die of barbarity and typhus and epidemics is killing then I would say the four million figure because, undoubtedly, huge numbers did die in the camps in the conditions that were very evident at the end of the war....

I believe David's figures are too high but then again as he admits the so called Holocaust is not really his department.

In any case recieving a three year sentence for expressing an opinion is outrageous and should not be tolerated. I hope David gets out early on good behavior and I hope this case will help contribute to further debate and contribute to some much needed legal reforms --

THE sincerity of David Irving’s claim that he now believes millions of Jews were killed by the Nazis and that gas chambers did exist was challenged by his twin brother yesterday.
John Irving is so unidentical to the right-wing historian and Holocaust denier that he serves as chairman of Wiltshire Racial Equality Council.

Asked about his brother’s recantation before a Vienna court, John Irving told The Times: “If I said ‘E pur si muove!’ would it mean anything to you?” The quotation is often attributed to Galileo who was forced by the Inquisition in 1633 to retract his heretical belief that the Earth moves around the Sun.

The astronomer and philosopher was facing the death penalty but escaped with life imprisonment after disowning his findings. Under his breath, he is reputed to have murmured the now famous Italian phrase meaning: “Yet still it moves.”

David Irving denounced his previous denial of the Holocaust at the opening of his trial where he faced a maximum of ten years’ imprisonment under Austria’s anti-Nazi laws. His apparent contrition helped reduce that to three years.

Irving was ruined when he sued Deborah Lipstadt for libel in London in 2000 after the American academic branded him “one of the world’s most prominent and dangerous Holocaust deniers”.

Mr Justice Gray described the historian as “an active Holocaust denier, anti-Semitic and racist” who had “distorted historical data to suit his own ideological agenda”.

Dr Lipstadt yesterday told The Times that Irving’s retraction was “rubbish”.

Speaking by telephone from Italy, she said: “I wouldn’t be the least surprised if, when he arrives back in London, he will say, ‘The reason I said this was a get-out-of-jail-free card’.”

She fears the prosecution has raised his profile. “I understand why Germany and Austria have this kind of law because of their history,” she said. “I am against these kind of laws. I don’t believe in censorship. I don’t think it’s efficacious.”

Unable to pay Penguin Books’ costs, Irving was forced into bankruptcy and lost his home in Mayfair, London.

He now lives with his girlfriend Bente Hogh in a more modest, rented flat in Kensington, West London.

His books are sold via a website belonging to a publishing company run by Ms Hogh. Although he claims to have rejected his old views, he makes the full texts of his works available on the internet for free downloading. Nuremberg: The Last Battle is filled with references to claims that Nazi gas-chamber atrocities were exaggerated by the Allies. Various versions of his book Hitler’s War are freely published there too.

His website hails “the courageous Viennese students” whose invitation to Austria resulted in his arrest. It claims that, while in prison, he has handwritten a 600-page autobiography Irving’s War. Irving makes regular visits to the United States, hosting the annual Real History, USA, Festival in Cincinnati.

Highlights have included a showing of Leni Reifenstahl’s notorious propaganda film Triumph of the Will about Hitler’s 1934 Nazi congress in Nuremberg.

His American opponents relish trying to disrupt his progress, telephoning hotels and restaurants in advance to cancel his bookings. One Jewish website recalls a US tour where Irving was forced to stay in cheap motels.

The Community Security Trust, a London-based Jewish organisation, was also sceptical. “Today Irving appears to have said that there were gas chambers but this has always been blindingly obvious,” a spokesman said. “It should only create news if he continues to say this upon leaving prison and seeks to challenge the opinions of those who use the perverted practice of Holocaust denial in order to goad and hate Jews.”

DAVID IRVING, the far-right British historian, sat stunned and open-mouthed yesterday when an Austrian court found him guilty of denying the Holocaust and sentenced him to three years in jail.

“I’m very shocked and I’m going to appeal,” Irving, 67, said as he was bundled out of the Vienna courtroom by armed anti-riot police.

From the public gallery a British supporter shouted “Stay strong, David”, before he too was led away.

But in Britain there was dismay at a verdict that could turn Irving into a right-wing martyr.

Irving had pleaded guilty to denying the Holocaust in two speeches in Austria in 1989. He was arrested when he re-entered the country, where it is a crime to deny the Holocaust, last November, and had been in custody since.

During his seven-hour trial yesterday Irving sought to convince the jury that he had changed his mind and now acknowledged the murder of six million Jews by the Nazis.

“I made a mistake when I said there were no gas chambers at Auschwitz,” he told the court.

But the judge and jury were unswayed. One hundred and fifty-eight people have been convicted of Holocaust denial in Austria between 1999 and 2004, but only a handful other than Irving have been imprisoned.

Lord Janner, chairman of the Holocaust Educational Trust, was pleased by the conviction.

He said: “It sends a clear message to the world that we must not tolerate the denial of the mass murderers of the Holocaust. The Nazis tried to wipe out an entire people . . . We must learn the lessons of the past to build a decent society for the future.”

The verdict came amid a furious debate in Europe over freedom of expression, with many defending the media’s right to publish cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed. The Arabic television station al-Jazeera was there to broadcast the verdict to its Islamic audience.

In Britain Nick Griffin, the leader of the British National Party, was recently acquitted of making speeches inciting racial hatred.

Abu Hamza, the radical Islamic cleric, was last week sentenced to seven years in prison for inciting racial hatred and soliciting murder.

In Britain there was some alarm at the severity of the sentence.

“Anyone who denies the Holocaust is off their rocker,” Gerald Howarth, the Tory MP for Aldershot, said. “But for goodness sake, to send a man to prison for three years for something he said 16 years ago and has since changed his view — what are we coming to?”
Anthony Beevor, the military historian, said: “However nauseating, these people should be confronted in debate rather than chucked into jail and turned into martyrs.”

The verdict will end for good the career of a man banned from a dozen countries from Canada to South Africa for belittling the murder of the Jews and glorifying Hitler.

In 2000 Irving was forced into bankruptcy when he unsuccessfully sued Deborah Lipstadt, an American academic who had called him a Holocaust denier. He was ordered to pay £3 million in legal costs and had to sell his Mayfair home.

She said: “He should have been met by the sound of one hand clapping. The one thing he deserves, he really deserves, is obscurity.”

THE drama for David Irving began yesterday when he strode into the Vienna courthouse — where the Nazis once beheaded resistance fighters — clutching a copy of his book Hitler’s War.
“It’s ridiculous that I should be standing trial for something I’m supposed to have done 16 years ago,” he fumed as he held the book aloft. “I’ve got no choice under the law as it stands — I’ve got to plead guilty,” said the 67-year-old British historian, who had been in jail since his arrest at a motorway service area last November.

His grand entry, 20 minutes early, was supposed to seize the initiative in his trial on charges of denying the Holocaust in two speeches in Austria in 1989. It was the kind of showmanship that he deployed during the controversies over the faked Hitler diaries and during the libel case six years ago against Penguin Books. On that occasion, the historian unsuccessfully sued a writer for claiming that he was a Holocaust denier.

“My views have changed. History is a constantly growing tree. The more documents are available the more you learn, and I have learnt a lot since 1989,” he told reporters as he waited.

But Judge Peter Liebtreu did not allow Irving to dominate proceedings. Again and again he encouraged the historian to make a public apology. In the end Irving told the court that his views had changed since the 1989 speeches. He now accepted the existence of the gas chambers at Auschwitz and that the Nazis murdered millions of Jews. The judge read out a quotation from one of the speeches: “It makes no sense to transport people from Amsterdam, Vienna and Brussels 500 kilometres to Auschwitz simply to liquidate them when it can be more easily done 8km from the city where they live.”

Did you say this? asked Judge Liebtreu. “I said exactly that,” replied Irving. “And now?” asked Judge Liebtreu. “It was an error,” said Irving. “Just one?” pressed the judge.

Irving urged the eight-strong jury, consisting mainly of young women, to consider the context. He was talking to 80 or 90 sympathisers in the back of a pub. Outside, leftist demonstrators were demanding his blood. “The atmosphere was heated, very tense,” he said.

The judge cut him down.

“According to police reports, you weren’t under threat at all, you were happily signing copies of your books,” he said.

The jury assisted the three-judge panel in deciding on the sentence of three years’ jail after a seven-hour hearing.

Irving was arrested on November 11 last year in the southern Austrian province of Styria on a warrant issued in 1989 after police had been tipped off about his presence. He was charged under a federal law that makes it a crime to publicly diminish, deny or justify the Holocaust. He had tried to secure bail but the court refused for fear that he might flee before he could be brought to trial.

Irving’s admission that gas chambers really did exist at Auschwitz was a retraction of a key phrase for a historian who has always trivialised the Holocaust. He also said that he “regretted using such a strong formulation” when asked about a statement in which he said Holocaust witnesses needed to see a psychiatrist.

And yet there were limits to Irving’s remorse. He was adamant that Hitler was not involved in the Holocaust and that he had actually helped Jews. Those are the views that he first set out in Hitler’s War, first published in 1977, in which he maintained that Hitler knew nothing of the Nazi slaughter of six million jews until 1943.

His admissions failed to impress the prosecutor. “He’s just putting on a show for you. David Irving is playing the role of repentant sinner,” Michael Klackl said.

Questioned about his views on the gas chambers, Irving told Herr Klackl: “That was no Holocaust denial, that was only (a statement) about a part of the history.” Irving was also accused of saying that the 1938 Kristallnacht pogrom against the Jews was not the work of Nazis but of “unknown” troublemakers who had dressed up as storm troopers.

In his own closing statement, he said that he was “very proud of the 30 books I have written”.

Throughout the trial a row of supporters — Austrians, Germans and Britons — nodded their heads enthusiastically when Irving scored an occasional point. Lady Michelle Renouf said that she could not understand the fuss. “The obvious thing would be to exhume the bodies and determine whether they died from typhoid fever or from gas,” she said. When a reporter pointed out that the bodies were now ash, she turned abruptly away. Across the courtroom she flashed a smile at her friend Irving who looked up from his book. He was reading Eggs, Beans and Crumpets by P. G. Wodehouse

DAVID IRVING’S world shrank yesterday to 10m by 10m. These are the dimensions of the cells in Josefstadt jail, Vienna, his likely home for the next three years.
As he swaggered into the courtroom, Irving was quite pleased with his lot. His detention cell, he said, had given him the “necessary peace to work on my memoirs”. He made it sound like a scholar’s dream, a kind of sabbatical paid for by the Austrian State. But by last night that cell looked less attractive. Library privileges will be restricted and the prison governor has removed all copies of Irving ’s books from the shelves. If he wants to complete his memoirs and other books — the next debunking Churchill and another analysing Himmler — he will need a great deal of outside help. There is no regular internet access in Josefstadt and his mail is likely to be more tightly controlled.

In detention since November 11, he has been allowed to receive as many as 200 pieces of fan mail a week. As a convicted criminal, he will have his mail monitored carefully.

There are three meals a day at Josefstadt, fish on Fridays and — if so inclined — kosher food, too. He has already complained that the room in which 70 inmates eat is “half the size of my drawing room in Mayfair”.

At the age of 67, Irving will not be expected to perform manual labour but a traditional post for more elderly inmates is to sort out the books.

But the biggest punishment will be separation from his 12-year-old daughter Jessica. He mentioned her twice yesterday, perhaps to sway the mainly female jury. “I love her very much,” he said in his opening statement.

“What would you tell your daughter about the Holocaust?” the judge, Peter Liebtreu, asked him. For once Irving was lost for words

Galileo, Inquisition, established supreme dictators of permissible public discourse. Could it be remotely possible that there are parallels here?

I hold that the Sun is located at the centre of the revolutions of the heavenly orbs and does not change place, and that the Earth rotates on
itself and moves around it. Moreover ... I confirm this view not only
by refuting Ptolemy's and Aristotle's arguments, but also by producing
many for the other side, especially some pertaining to physical effects
whose causes perhaps cannot be determined in any other way, and other
astronomical discoveries; these discoveries clearly confute the Ptolemaic
system, and they agree admirably with this other position and confirm it.

http://www-groups.dcs.st-and.ac.uk/~history/Mathematicians/Galileo.html

On the morning of June 22, 1633, Galileo, dressed in the white shirt
of penitence, entered the large hall of the Inquisition building.
He knelt and listened to his sentence: "Whereas you, Galileo, the son
of the late Vincenzo Galilei, Florentine, aged seventy years, were in
the year 1615 denounced to this Holy Office for holding as true the
false doctrine....." The reading continued for seventeen paragraphs:
And, so that you will be more cautious in future, and an example for
others to abstain from delinquencies of this sort, we order that the book
Dialogue of Galileo Galilei be prohibited by public edict. We condemn
you to formal imprisonment in this Holy Office at our pleasure.

As a salutary penance we impose on you to recite the seven penitential
psalms once a week for the next three years. And we reserve to ourselves
the power of moderating, commuting, or taking off, the whole or part of
the said penalties and penances.

This we say, pronounce, sentence, declare, order and reserve by this or
any other better manner or form that we reasonably can or shall think
of. So we the undersigned Cardinals pronounce

Following the reading of the sentence, Galileo knelt to recite his
abjuration:

....[D]esiring to remove from the minds of your Eminences, and of all
faithful Christians, this strong suspicion, reasonably conceived against
me, with sincere heart and unfeigned faith I abjure, curse, and detest
the aforesaid errors and heresies, and generally every other error and
sect whatsoever contrary to the said Holy Church; and I swear that in the
future I will never again say or assert, verbally or in writing, anything
that might furnish occasion for a similar suspicion regarding me....

I, the said Galileo Galilei, have abjured, sworn, promised, and bound
myself as above; and in witness of the truth thereof I have with my own
hand subscribed the present document of my abjuration, and recited it
word for word at Rome, in the Convent of Minerva, this twenty-second
day of June, 1633.

I, Galileo Galilei, have abjured as above with my own hand.

History has not yet forgotten the name Galileo Galilei.

War and religion have always made a bilious sort of cocktail. ... E.T. Bell

Perhaps you have trouble reading: From now on every Jew we argue with will say, "Even David Irving admitted to gas chambers being at Auschwitz"

Is there something you can't comprehend about that?

If he had been imprisoned for 10 years and not surrendered he would be a living symbol of the injustice of the European governments just as Rudolf Hess was for over 40 years locked up in Spandau prison. He blew his chance.
