NORMAN, Okla. —An organization is planning a controversial flyover of Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium during Saturday’s tailgate season opener.

According to a press release, Americans for Limited Government announced tailgate crowds will see the message #returnthestolenart for two hours prior to the game against Akron.

Rick Manning, the organization's president, says it’s a commentary on the University of Oklahoma’s decision to fight against returning the painting “Shepherdess Bringing in Sheep” by Camille Pissarro, which was stolen from a Jewish family by the Nazis.

“OU has the responsibility to return this art piece to the family that it was confiscated by Hitler’s regime," Manning said in a release. "It is reprehensible that they are setting the moral example for their students that it is OK to do the wrong thing as long as you feel you can get away with it.”

OU President David Boren calls the flyover inappropriate, telling KOCO 5 the matter is currently being handled in court.
