On issues like profiling and immigration. They dont want attention being drawn to Israeli policy. They may lose more support from lefties and i would add it makes it difficult for the usual suspect groups to keep praising and demanding support for Israel while talking about how evil and dangerous the same kind of views and policy proposals are here.
