SEASIDE, Calif. -- A teacher accidentally fired a gun inside a classroom here on Tuesday afternoon and a student was slightly hurt, authorities said. Dennis Alexander was teaching public safety for his Administration of Justice class in Seaside High School when a shot went off around 1:20 p.m., reports CBS Monterey, California affiliate KION-TV.
Alexander is also a reserve police officer for Sand City Police, authorities said.
Alexander "accidentally discharged his firearm into the ceiling," said Seaside Police Chief Abdul Pridgen.
Though the gun didn't shoot anyone directly, "Fragments from the bullet struck a student in the neck," Pridgen said.

I was a campus cop in the 1970s. But we were the guys sent to frat parties to provide a police presence if there were rumors of a drunken brawl, etc. I only arrested the few who threw drunken punches at me and, being 6' 6" tall and weighing 220 pounds with 7 percent body fat I didn't get hurt. They were out the next day and I never pressed anything other than drunk and disorderly, which was a fine in those gentle days in Georgia, and sometime later I even got plastered drunk with guys I arrested. We all had a good laugh. I did get impressed into some shit in a few niggertowns since I was deputized. The niggers who shot at me missed and I probably did some damage to pine trees and buildings when I fell in a shoulder roll while firing back.
I also was a chief health officer for a state department of corrections. Everyone had to receive corrections officer (CO) basic training and that included firearms.
I've worn three badges: campus cop, security guard, and chief health officer, department of corrections facility.
And I'd never pin on one again.
