Ku Klux Klan stages rally at Civil War battlefield

SHARPSBURG, Md. - Members of the Ku Klux Klan and other white supremacist groups rallied Saturday at the Antietam National Battlefield, the first time a group has been given permission to demonstrate at the site of the bloodiest day of the Civil War.
About 30 people, some attired in the Klan's white robes and others wearing the military-style clothing and swastika armbands of the National Socialist Movement of America, stood next to a farmhouse on the battlefield. Some delivered speeches attacking immigrants, blacks and other minority groups.
About 200 officers from the National Park Service, U.S. Park Police, Maryland State Police and the Washington County Sheriff's office were present to make sure the demonstration remained peaceful and to act as a buffer between the Klan and counter-demonstrators, who were kept about 200 feet away.
Gordon Young, Imperial Wizard of the World Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, said he tried to organize rallies at two other locations but was turned down before he settled on Antietam, which he said carries powerful symbolism.
"As the Klan, we are the ghosts of our Confederate brothers and sisters who died here," Young said.
The demonstration was believed to be the first at the park, which was established as a national park in 1890, said superintendent John Howard. About 90 permits are issued each year, but most are for more mundane events like weddings and road races, he said.
The Klan permit is the first to be granted on the grounds of free speech, according to Howard. The group, known for burning crosses, was prohibited from lighting any fires.
The protest was the third by extremist groups at national parks in the past three years. Two years ago, the National Socialist Movement demonstrated at Valley Forge, Pa., and the same group held a rally last year at Colonial Park in Williamsburg, Va.
"The Supreme Court has ruled consistently that national parks in particular are places of freedom of expression," Howard said.
The Klan members and counter-demonstrators had to pass through metal detectors to participate in the protest. A row of park police in riot gear stood between the two groups, who hurled insults at each other, and authorities patrolled the grounds on foot and on horseback. A state police helicopter hovered overhead.
Young, dressed in a business suit, said the Klan was protesting "black-on-white crime" and immigration.
"We don't want to be around these other people. We openly say it. We don't hide," he said as he stood next to a man whose face remained covered by a white hood.
The counter-demonstration drew about as many people as the Klan rally. The 37th Texas Cavalry re-enactors, based in Virginia Beach, Va., were granted a permit to stage the protest. The NAACP also filed for a permit but withdrew it, Howard said.
Helania Hinson, 42, said she drove all night from her hometown of Benson, N.C., for the counter-demonstration. Dressed in a Confederate-style gray wool outfit and black cap, she said she wanted to show that the Confederacy was not about white power.
"These people claim they represent Southern heritage. They do not, and we want people to know that," Hinson said. She said her great-great-grandfather was an American Indian who fought with the Confederacy.
Said Jeffrey Margolies, a counter-demonstrator from the Jewish motorcycle group Semites on Bikes: "It's disgusting that they would come to sacred ground."

My name is Bill White and I am a spokesman for the National Socialist Movement.
One hundred and forty five years ago a clique of Radical Republican, consisting mostly of Northern capitalists and heretical Christians – Christians who had been deceived by the lies of the Jewish Talmud – launched a war, cloaked in moral purpose, for the economic subjugation of the South. 625,000 of our countrymen died in that war, 3,200 of them here on this battlefield.]
It is a war that was fought to take Southern people and bring them into the Northern capitalist machine – to put them to work for Northern factories and Northern businesses. It was a war fought for the Republican Party and a war fought for the benefit of a very small and very hateful minority that never represented any major segment of the American population.
Likewise, we have a very small minority that has come down from New York and New Jersey – and I recognize a good number of them, mostly Jewish, representing nobody local as far as I can tell – who have come out to protest against us and to represent that same Jewish, capitalist system.
In 2002, the same Republican Party declared a war for the economic exploitation of another people, the people of Iraq, in support of their Jewish exploitation of Palestine. The Northern capitalist structure was again deceived into believing it was in their economic interest to declare war on Iraq. And the same Christian heretics – the so-called Judaeo-Christians and the neo-cons – supported that war and tried to give it a moral purpose.
We stand here today in solidarity with those who are facing the same oppression in Iraq and Palestine that we faced here in the United States.
If you look at the results of the American Civil War, what was done to white working people after that war in the South?
White people lost the right to vote so that these Jews could dominate the government – so these capitalist interest could dominate the government. White people lost the right to have property south of the Mason-Dixon line – they couldn’t go to court to defend it. They lost the right to take a person to court when they were criminally victimized.
And out of that oppression came the Ku Klux Klan, as a movement of white resistance against Northern economic exploitation. And for that reason I stand here today in solidarity with the Ku Klux Klan, as a civil rights movement, a movement defending white working class people against these Northern capitalist interests and these Jewish lackeys who are here today.
In the middle of the 20th Century we fought a second struggle against the North. They sent down Jews, in buses, by hordes – the so called “Freedom Riders” – not to liberate us – not to liberate working people – the blacks of the South ended up no better than the whites of the South – but to take the newly emerged Southern political aristocracy and ram down their throats their Jewish politics and their Northern politics and their Northern economic interests.
To those out here today shouting slogans in favor of Bush, Bush is the consummate example of that Northern economic interest, that Northeast establishment – though he moved to Texas – that Northeast establishment that has kept the white working class in submission.
I came up here today from Roanoke, Virginia, though I was born here in Maryland, at the invitation of the Reverend Gordon Young to speak for a people who are not spoken for.
In the neighborhood where I do most of my business the average income is $12,000 a year. And to some of your reporters out here, I know what they pay on a DC salary, and most you members of the press are earning four or five times that, some of you news anchors are earning twenty or thirty times that. These people survive – they buy food, they buy housing, they pay their bills – on as much money as some of you receive in a month, and that most of you receive in three or four months.
Who stands up for this white working class? Who defends them? The Jews? The communists? They despise the working class. They love the globalists – including those who say they are “anti-globalist” but support every internationalist system they can come up with. And international capitalism and international Bolshevism are exactly the same system – two ways of establishing economic control in a centralized manner of a small number over the majority.
These [gesturing to protestors] are defenders of the capitalist system – no matter how radical or how anti-social the think they are when they come out here and protest.
We come out here and stand up for people whose voices cannot be heard.
When we see what they’ve done to this country – the economic attacks that are launched against white working class people:
Immigration is an attack on the white working class. Its not a movement of internationalism; its not a movement of racial solidarity; it’s a movement to undermine the wages that white working people fought for through the union system and the labor system, and it has been explicitly advocated as such.
These folks who come out here and demand more immigration are attacking working people that they have no contact with. In their universities, in their anti-social underground cultures where they can’t hold a job and don’t know what its like to work for a living – where they have their parents supporting them, paying their way, paying their gas so they can come out here and put on masks and act silly – these folk are the enemies of the working class. And they support the policies, when you see them in the streets demanding immigration, when you see them demonstrating in the streets for moving jobs overseas, when you see them demonstrating for opening up trade, they are supporting the enemy that they claim to oppose. They and their “revolutionary” movement and our leadership in this country are the same.
I’m glad today to see so few counter demonstrators and so many of our supporters – and the media – there is more media standing over there than there are people opposed to us – and, as I mentioned, they’re all out of towners.
I think we’ve got quite a few Sharpsburg, Maryland residents over here – [crowd cheers, raises hands] – more than quite a few. And I am proud to stand where the people of Sharpsburg stand. The people of Sharpsburg are the white working class. They’re not quite as bad off as we are down in the Blue Ridge, but they are in the same situation:
There are a few counties in this state, a few Jew dominated and minority dominated counties, like Montgomery County and Price George’s and the City of Baltimore, that consistently deny the rights of the white working people who inhabit the vast majority of the territory of this state.

And to whoever just came out and said “go home” I’d like to point out that the vast majority of you came down from New Jersey and New York, so you should watch who you’re speaking to.
The National Socialist Movement, all across the country, has been demonstrating: In Toledo, Ohio, in Lansing, Michigan, hell, in Buffalo, New York today they are demonstrating just as much as we are here. And everywhere we go the reaction to us is universally positive. When I walked out of Lansing, Michigan after we had our rally at the State House, I couldn’t stop people from shaking my hand. For every one of our 75 stormtroopers and 50 supporters who made it through the police cordon, when we went out to dinner and when we went out to lunch, people stop me and say “Mr White, I’ve seen you on TV and I’d like to shake your hand, and I’d like to thank you for standing up for us”.
The headline there in the papers said “Rally to highlight the failure of democracy for whites”, and that has such resonance with white people, because we recognize that democracy is the same lie as multiculturalism and diversity.
Democracy, communism, internationalism, free trade, multiculturalism, corporate globalism, these are all the same movement. And they are all aimed directly at us. But no more are we going to stand quietly, and let the Jews who own the handful of major media companies censor our speech – hell, as I’m speaking this is being put up on the internet and will be broadcast by the end of the day – we’ve ten thousand people read just my website today so far, and we haven’t even gotten the video and tape up there.
We’re no longer going to allow the censorship that we’ve had in the past to stop us. We’re not going to allow a bunch of Jews dancing a seder and singing Have Nagilia and showing how alien they are to white working people and our culture stand up and stop us. We’re not longer going to allow threats of violence, threats of firebombs, folk like Mr Jenkins standing over there who likes to encourage people to go to peoples’ houses and kill and attack their opponents and who used a phony media pass to get into the media section today [police go to remove Jenkins from media area] . We’re not going to allow these people to continue to intimidate us.
We are the white working class. We have been quiet too long. We have been manipulated too long. And we are going to stand up and we are going to overcome this system. And we are going to turn it back into a system that stand for us.
