Latinos sue against 'racist' redistricting maps in Texas

A coalition of Latino organizations and individuals filed a lawsuit against Texas state officials, challenging new redistricting maps approved by the state legislature this week that they say intentionally discriminate against Hispanic voters based on race and national origin.

The Texas Legislature approved Monday the new redistricting maps intended to shape U.S. congressional and state voting boundaries during the next decade. But even as the approved districts were waiting for Gov. Gregg Abbott’s signature to become law, the Latino coalition filed suit the same day, seeking a federal court judgment declaring the maps discriminatory and unconstitutional.
