As if we needed any further proof that getting involved in a roadside nigger 'domestic' is bad for your health. Austin Hemmings was buried this morning 1st October.

He was stabbed in the chest staggering about 50 metres before he fell dead on the street, blood streaming from a chest wound and running in rivulets down Mills Lane in Aucklands CBD.

Of course the wife has forgiven the subhuman who slaughtered her husband, and has spoken publicly about her desire to scatter her husbands ashes in Israel.

Hemmings hailed as a hero

Auckland, New Zealand.

Police have described the actions of Austin Bernard Hemmings, a married father of three, as heroic after he was killed trying to help a woman who was being assaulted.

Hemmings, 44, was stabbed repeatedly in the chest by the attacker, a 45-year-old man on the sickness beneficiary.

An IAG broker manager, he was a Devonport resident, having just arrived with his family from Hamilton only six months ago.

He leaves behind a wife and three teenage children. Two of his children go to a local high school in Devonport and the third attends university.

His wife is a teacher at Takapuna Grammar School. His father a Baptist minister in Matamata.

Hemmings died trying to do the right thing after the woman being attacked pleaded for his help.

"He paid the ultimate price and if anything I just wanted to say to the family that he was a good person and that he tried to help and they should be proud of him,' said Lawrence Pio, an eyewitness.

The 44-year-old was on his way home from work when he was caught up in someone else's fight.

Police say there were a number of Good Samaritans in Mill Lane on Thursday night, as people scrambled to resuscitate Hemmings

But it's his actions that stood out above the rest. Detective Senior Sergeant Gerry Whitley, the officer in charge of the homicide investigation, described his actions as 'heroic'.

Pio said he was a bit worried that this incident may have left others in Auckland a bit too scared about helping a person in need.

"I don't think the average person would have enough courage now to face any situation that involved violence and it is really sad because when people cry help, they obviously need help".

Hemmings' colleagues at NZI say they have lost a manager they admired.

"He was involved in the church, involved in his family. It was paramount to everything he did," says Karl Armstrong from NZI.

Hemmings family got the bad news over the phone and rushed immediately to be by his side, pushing through the police cordon to get to the body.

On Friday, more of his family and friends made the painful visit to the murder scene.

The man, who will be remembered by many New Zealanders for his last actions, will soon be given back to his family.

Hemmings' family has asked that their privacy be respected while they deal with the tragedy
