Man sentenced to life imprisonment in Capitol Heights honor student's killing

A Prince George's County man convicted of killing a high school honor student on his walk to school was sentenced to life in prison on Friday.

Twenty-one-year-old Travon Donnell Bennett was sentenced in Prince George's County Circuit Court.

A jury found him guilty of second-degree murder and armed robbery in August.

The jury found him not guilty of first-degree murder.

Eighteen-year-old Marckel Ross was killed on Sept. 11, 2012, while walking to Central High School in Capitol Heights. The 11th-grader was a track athlete at the school.

Prosecutors said Bennett shot Ross after he refused to give up his cell phone and iPod, while defense attorneys had argued at Bennett's trial that Ross' death was not planned.

Here is Marckel, with his bling, the 18 year old 11th-grader honor student and athlete, who was murdered by nigger Trayvon.
