Jules Polonetsky (born August 18, 1965)[1] is an American lawyer and internet privacy expert from Brooklyn, New York who currently serves as Director and Co-chair of the Future of Privacy Forum. He served in the New York State Assembly from 1995 to 1998, representing southern Brooklyn. From 1998 to 2000 he served as commissioner of the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs under mayor Rudolph Giuliani. In 2011 he was appointed to the Data Privacy and Integrity Advisory Committee of the Department of Homeland Security.[2] Polonetsky also previously served as Chief Privacy Officer for both AOL and DoubleClick.[3]

Polonetsky is a graduate of Yeshiva University and New York University School of Law. He began his career as an associate for Stroock & Stroock & Lavan and later served from 1990 to 1992 as a district representative for United States Representative Steve Solarz, and from 1992 to 1993 as a legislative aide to United States Representative Charles Schumer.
