ANAHEIM – An Anaheim man is suspected of handcuffing and shooting his adult daughter in both legs and threatening to kill her boyfriend. Authorities said Wednesday that they are worried the man may be on his way to Los Angeles to track down his daughter’s boyfriend and carry out his threat.
Seferino Ochoa, 48, had been acting oddly over the last few weeks, according to his family, becoming increasing incoherent, irrational and despondent, said Anaheim police Sgt. Rick Martinez. But no one expected him to pull out a gun and shoot his 21-year-old daughter after trying to handcuff her during a heated argument about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The woman managed to keep from being completely handcuffed, but she was shot once in each of her legs as she fought with her father in a house in the 500 block of South Archer Street. Several other relatives were home when the father and daughter were fighting, but no one else was injured during the struggle.
The daughter, whose name was not released, had moved out of the house recently but was back Monday night to visit her family, Anaheim police Sgt. William Jefferson said.
"He did what he could do to keep her from leaving," said Jefferson.
Ochoa left with the gun, and his family called police. Officers have not been called to the house to deal with domestic issues in the past, police said.
Worried Ochoa might be headed up to east Los Angeles County to find his daughter’s boyfriend, Anaheim authorities are working with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to keep the boyfriend as safe as possible.
Ochoa’s daughter remains in the hospital. She is expected to recover from her wounds.
An Orange County judge signed a $250,000 warrant for Ochoa’s arrest Tuesday on suspicion of attempted murder and use of a firearm. Ochoa is described as 5 feet 6, 140 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Anaheim Police Department at 714-765-1991.
