CINCINNATI -- Police were busy Monday night, and not just because of crashes or helping out at unlighted intersections -- the force is on alert against looters.
WLWT’s Laura Borchers rode along with Price Hill officer Amber Burress as she was on patrol.
Burress said that she may see one break-in on an average Sunday night but responded to a half-dozen due to the power outages.
Store owner Tony Gupta decided to stay up all night to guard over his store because it was broken into Sunday night.
"They took calling cards, cigars, tobacco, cigarettes, I've got to do what I've got to do to survive,” Gupta said.
On any other night, the looters wouldn't have stood a chance. He's loaded the store with motion detectors, cameras, glass sensors and alarms but when the electricity went out, so did his security.
Burress said that many officers are regularly checking up on stores such as Gupta’s to curb any looting.
"Everyone's doing more than their eight hours to help out,” Burress said.
Officers are working extended shifts and on top of normal duties, they're shining light on anything suspicious, as well as downed wires and trees.
