A blind native American man is suing a hospital, accusing staff of racism and saying he emerged from open heart surgery with scars that spelled the letters KKK on his stomach.

A lawyer for Mr Traversie filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the hospital, its board of directors and others, seeking a jury trial and damages, on Monday.

Rapid City police said when they investigated the incident they found no evidence of a crime and could not make out the letters KKK.
