Well we have waited 37 years and now it appears they are going to make a new das boot movie. This one doesnt seem to be a entirely german perspective though.... of course they have some French resistance viewpoint.

In 1981 didn't they in a year or two later release it as a tv series in western Germany too? I wonder did east germans pirate the movie maybe sneak in some blank vhs tapes that were really bootleg copies? that is if anyone in east Germany had a vhs machine. I don't even think in the early 80s there was a way to record it maybe you just had to steal the film reels. Now why cant we have a movie about that east german patriots sneaking into the west to get some Nazi stuff
