New Orleans police arrest officer for writing 215 bogus tickets

New Orleans police officials announced Thursday they have arrested a 22-year veteran of the police force on 215 counts of injuring public records and one count of malfeasance in office, The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports .
Glenn Gross was booked for writing bogus tickets for seat belt violations, allowing him to collect extra pay, police said. Gross worked in the police’s information technology department.
In June the department received a federal grant that pays overtime to officers who enforce seat belt laws. Rather than writing up drivers who had violated the law, Gross wrote tickets to non-existent motorists in order to collect overtime.
The investigation into Gross began when a supervisor became suspicious and reported the alleged scam to NOPD’s equivalent of internal affairs.
