NEW VIRGINIA ANTI-SWASTIKA LAW
A new law took effect on July 1 which makes it a felony to place a Swastika on private property without the permission of the owner, or on public property, or on a highway.
The law includes language which specifies that it is only illegal if the intent of displaying the Swastika is "to intimidate" - but it also includes a provision stating that simply displaying the Swastika is prima facie evidence of "intent to intimidate."
The law also draws a distinction between the use of the Swastika as political or racial symbol of White people - which it terms "the Hakenkreuz" - on one hand, & on its use as a religious symbol by non-Whites such as Buddhists & American Indians, which is not deemed illegal.
