Local Funeral Home Accused Of Mutilating A Corpse

Allendale, SC—Ruth Hines, Minister James Hines’ widow: “I’m just going through quite a bit, it’s like starting all over again, and it’s left me with hurt and numbness.“

Ruth Hines is in disbelief after learning that her husband of 31 years, Minister James Hines, may have not had a proper burial.

Ruth Hines: “He was man that was full of love.”

Minister Hines died of skin cancer in 2004, and his funeral was handled through Cave Funeral Services. Allendale Police Detective Donnie Hutto says a former employee at the funeral home claims Hines’ legs were cut off, so his body could fit the casket.

I talked with the funeral director, Wednesday afternoon.

Charlie G., owner, Cave Funeral Services: “The records will speak for itself.”

Hines’ wife says her husband was very tall, standing at 6 feet, five inches, so she made sure the right casket was selected.

Ruth Hines: “According to the measurements on the casket, and the funeral director, we asked him, ‘was this suitable for his length?‘ and he said, ‘yes that will be prefect.‘”

State and local investigators dug up Hines grave, this week, and took pictures for evidence. Detective Hutto says he can’t comment on the condition of the body.

Detective Donnie Hutto, Allendale Police Department: “It’s pretty tough to sit and look at something like that.”

Hines says her family has used Caves’ services for years, and if these allegations are true, she’s not sure what to do.

Ruth Hines: “I really can’t say, right now.”

Authorities say, if the allegations are true, the funeral home could lose its operating license.
