BALTIMORE - Baltimore City Police Officer Daniel Redd pleaded guilty Friday to conspiring to distribute, possessing with intent to distribute heroin and using a gun in a drug trafficking crime.
According to Redd’s plea agreement, from January to June 30, 2011 he conspired with other people to distribute between one and three kilograms of heroin.
U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein tells ABC 2 News, “The Baltimore Police Department initiated this investigation and has been a full partner in this and other pending federal cases involving allegedly corrupt police officers. ”
Police Commissioner Bealefeld says he knows that the overwhelming majority of the men and women of the Baltimore Police Department work hard every day to make the city safer. However, he is committed to taking disciplinary action against the small amount of corrupt officers within the department.
If the court accepts the plea agreement, Redd will be sentenced to 20 years in prison. His sentencing is set for June 20 at 1:00 p.m.
