MADISON, Wis. -- A jazz musician who filed a legal brief in the form of rap lyrics has won his appeal and will get out of paying nearly $4,000 in attorney's fees.Gregory Royal is a trombone player who now lives in Washington, D.C. He represented himself in a dispute with La Crosse County officials stemming from a messy divorce and custody battle.Royal isn't an attorney. He said he wanted to use creativity to convince the Wisconsin Court of Appeals he shouldn't have to pay attorney's fees for bringing an earlier lawsuit deemed frivolous. He said he spent three days writing his brief in the form of rap lyrics.A three-judge panel ruled in his favor this month. The court didn't mention the lyrics in its decision but Royal said he believed they helped him win.
