Anticipation
The jury in Letalvis Cobbins' double murder case has reached a verdict; court has been called to order. The jury has returned.
Judge Baumgartner has called the attorneys to the bench after reviewing the 41-page verdict form to be sure it's filled out correctly; at that point, the jury will soon announce their verdict.
As Judge Baumgartner reviews the verdict forms, family members appear to be praying.
Hugh Christopher Newsom's parents, Hugh and Mary Newsom, have also been seated. Shortly afterward, Channon Christian's parents, Gary and Deena Christian, returned.
Gary Christian is visibly agitated. This is a day for which he's waited more than two years.
Letalvis Cobbins and defense attorneys Scott Green and Kim Parton have returned to court.
As the judge reviews the verdict form, Cobbins is visibly nervous, biting his lower lip, and his forehead furrowed.
The jury deliberated all day Monday and for about two hours Tuesday before reaching a verdict.
You can watch the verdict live on WBIR and wbir.com.
Here's a rundown of what to look for in a verdict.
Jurors returning
Jurors arrived at the courthouse at 8:12 a.m. Tuesday morning to begin day 2 of deliberations.
Although Judge Richard Baumgartner allows jurors to ask questions in writing, the Cobbins jury has been especially quiet.
Letalvis Cobbins is the first of four defendants to go to trial for the murders of Channon Christian and Chris Newsom.
Throughout the proof phase of Cobbins' trial, jurors did not ask one question of the dozens of witnesses called to the stand by the state.
Baumgartner does not allow jurors to ask defendants questions when they take the stand.
In the past, jury questions provided hints about what testimony the jurors doubt, or which testimony jurors may not fully understand.
But, there have not been too many indications of what the jury is thinking at this point. .
That trend is continuing into deliberation. Since the judge gave the Nashville panel the case shortly after 9am on Monday, the jury has not asked one question.
Jurors are deliberating over 38 charges that Letalvic Cobbins is facing in connection with the murders of Channon Christian and Chris Newsom.
