READINGTON — An FBI agent was killed Thursday, apparently by the accidental discharge of a fellow agent’s gun during a confrontation with three of four suspected bank robbers at a bank in this Hunterdon County township.

The FBI identified the slain special agent as Barry Lee Bush, 52, who spent 19 years with the bureau and was assigned to the Newark, N.J., division, where he was working on an investigation into recent bank robberies in that area.

“Preliminarily, information suggests the agent may have been fatally wounded as a result of the accidental discharge of another agent’s weapon during a dynamic arrest situation,” the FBI said in a statement Thursday night. Nice way of saying a nigarow agent was too stupid to figure out who to shoot.

The agent’s stakeout team had fired on the suspects outside a bank branch on Thursday. While the FBI said the three suspects were armed, they were not believed to have fired their weapons, and the agent may have been accidentally shot by one of his own colleagues.

Two suspects, Wilfredo Berrios, 28, and Michael Cruz, 21, both of New Brunswick, were captured immediately. The third, Francisco Herrera-Genao, 22, of New Brunswick, fled on foot into the woods and was captured shortly after 8 a.m. Friday in Branchburg, State Police Lt. Gerald Lewis said.
