Police: 14-Year-Old Shot by Friend Was Murdered

(MOBILE, Ala.) December 15 - Police now say a 14-year-old boy shot in the head by his friend, was murdered.

Nubian james was a 9th grader at Williamson High School in Mobile. Investigators say he was shot in the head last Wednesday by a 15-year-old friend. Until now, police said the shooting was accidental, that the kids had been playing with a gun. However, the 15-year-old is now charged with murder. Police say the boy shot James intentionally.

After a court hearing last week, NBC 15 News asked one of Nubian's relatives if the alleged 15-year-old shooter seemed remorseful.

I looked at this child, I didn't see it," James's cousin, Stephanie Watson, said at the time. "I mean, does he really know what's really going on?"

James's father says the upgraded charges will not bring his son back.

The 15-year-old remains in the custody of authorities, at Strickland Youth Center.
