2 men shot and killed during an apparent home invasion

Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - Two men were shot and killed on Louisville's west end on Tuesday, but the gunman has not been charged. Police say the gunman may have been defending himself from intruders.

The shooting happened at a home that was converted into apartments.

The property owner spent several hours here at police headquarters tonight talking to officers.

It looks like the teens busted in on the owner - and the owner fired back.

Tears - a common sight at this corner after what happened today.

Emotion takes over many of the onlookers. One of them tells me her 19-year-old boyfriend was shot and killed behind this building.

Det. Phil Russell LMPD PIO said, “There are 2 victims that have been shot one is dead the other transported his injuries are life threatening he was transported to university hospital.”

The crowds quickly formed around the yellow tape as word spread.

The news is especially disturbing to this mother who lives close by - she too lost her daughter to violence.

Carla Cowan said, “I just feel so sorry for the family as a mother that lost a child to murder you know to see this happen it’s really breathe taking.”
