More than 50% of American women still don't have children at the age of 30. By 35, fertility takes a sharp decline, with a 15% chance of conceiving, dropping to 5% after 40. This means that the window of opportunity for starting a family begins at an age that begins with a 2.

However, feminists argue that this is the age to have fun and build a career. They claim that the family is a patriarchal construct meant to oppress women. Corporate advertising, Hollywood, and the media reinforce this narrative, promoting unrealistic life goals.

This has led to the paradox of female unhappiness, which has risen (according to surveys) since the 1970s as women have increased their presence in the workforce and taken on powerful and decision-making roles. Women have experienced a more pronounced decline in happiness compared to men.
