One person has been killed and five injured after a parcel bomb exploded in central Paris on Thursday. The bomb is reported to have exploded the offices of a law firm, called the Gouet-Jenselme law practice, on the fourth floor of the building.
Paris lawyer Christian Charriere-Bournazel told Associated Press that "someone came to the office and left a package. The secretary that opened it in fact opened a parcel bomb. The parcel bomb killed her."
The building is reported to also house a foundation that does research on the Holocaust, as well as the law firm French President Nicolas Sarkozy used to work for. Paris Mayor Bertrand Delanoe stressed that there was no reason so far to suspect a link between Sarkozy and the attack.
According to the Web site of French daily Le Monde, the building is located at 52 Boulevard Malesherbes in the 8th arrondissement. A police cordon has been set up around the site.
According to the TV channel LC1 there was a second explosive device that the police managed to defuse.
