Olathe Police Investigate Possible Hate Crime

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- John Goeken had just come home from running an errand Thursday and while putting his garage door up, he noticed something. Goeken stopped the door and brought it back down. A racial epithet had been written on the door.

"I mean, the first thing would be why?" Goeken told KMBC's Martin Augustine.

Goeken called police, who took pictures of what was written.

"I just felt a little bit violated," Goeken said. "Did I make somebody mad?"

Goeken said he got some bleach to help erase the words, but he is still wondering why someone would do this.

"It scares me because now I feel like I have to be guarded on 24-7. You know, somebody might come by and try something worse than this," Goeken said.

Augustine reported that the vandals also hit a neighbor's storm door and a neighbor's car.
