A police officer has reportedly been stabbed ‘in the throat’ in a Paris suburb.

The attack took place this morning in Vincennes after a 29-year-old man tried to attack a nurse, the Le Figaro newspaper reported.

When police arrived at the scene, the man then attacked a female police officer with a knife and reportedly injured her throat.

Local reports say the attacker was killed by police officers after an exchange of gunfire in the area.

The motive of the attack is yet to be established.

France has been on high alert for the past year following a series of Islamic State attacks.
