New Interim Madison Schools Superintendent John Telford said he might face a swarm of critics tonight when he asks Madison Heights residents to let him recruit hundreds more Detroit students to their schools.

The Detroiters likely would be African Americans coming to a city that’s about 96% Caucasian and Asian, with only about 3% black residents, according to a U.S. Census estimate obtained in the 2005-2007 American Community Survey.

The district’s student body now is 60% white and 40% black, integrated almost entirely by its Detroit students, Telford said. (This is what we call insanity people....the fucking school district is almost half black while only 3% of the city is black).

“I’m holding assemblies at the schools today, telling the kids. They like the idea. The black kids cheered,” Telford said Tuesday. Now, his task is to persuade parents and citizens, and he admitted: That won’t be easy.
