Rupert Murdoch last night sounded the death knell for the era of the media baron, comparing today's internet pioneers with explorers such as Christopher Columbus and John Cabot and hailing the arrival of a "second great age of discovery".
The News Corp media magnate nurtures a long-held distaste for "the establishment" but last night confided to one of the few clubs to which he does belong - The Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers - that he may be among the last of a dying breed.
"Power is moving away from the old elite in our industry - the editors, the chief executives and, let's face it, the proprietors," said Mr Murdoch, having flown into London from New York after celebrating his 75th birthday on Saturday.
Far from mourning its passing, he evangelised about a digital future that would put that power in the hands of those already launching a blog every second, sharing photos and music online and downloading television programmes on demand. "A new generation of media consumers has risen demanding content delivered when they want it, how they want it, and very much as they want it," he said. Indicating he had little desire to slow down despite his advancing years, he told the 603-year-old guild that he was looking forward, not back.
"It is difficult, indeed dangerous, to underestimate the huge changes this revolution will bring or the power of developing technologies to build and destroy - not just companies but whole countries."
The owner of Fox News added: "Never has the flow of information and ideas, of hard news and reasoned comment, been more important. The force of our democratic beliefs is a key weapon in the war against religious fanaticism and the terrorism it breeds."
Refusing to reminisce over a career that saw him develop a global empire stretching from DirecTV and the New York Post in the US to Sky and the Sun in the UK via assets in South America, Asia and Australia, he declared: "I believe we are at the dawn of a golden age of information - an empire of new knowledge."
But he combined his new-found enthusiasm for the digital future with a "change or die" message for the monolithic media empires of the 20th century.
"Societies or companies that expect a glorious past to shield them from the forces of change driven by advancing technology will fail and fall," he warned. "That applies as much to my own, the media industry, as to every other business on the planet." Two hundred liverymen and freemen of the trade guild were joined by family and friends who then dined in Stationers' Hall, a Grade 1 listed building near St Paul's Cathedral in London.
He had some words of hope for his industry peers buffeted by declining circulations, free titles and the internet. "I believe traditional newspapers have many years of life but, equally, I think in the future that newsprint and ink will be just one of many channels to our readers," he said, predicting a future in which "media becomes like fast food" with consumers watching news, sport and film clips as they travel, on mobile phones or handheld wireless devices.

Most tellingly, the company spent $400m on MySpace.com, the social networking phenomenon that has proved hugely popular with 35m regular users on both sides of the Atlantic. Mr Murdoch has undergone a Damascene conversion, admitting he hugely underestimated the power of the web. He said last night: "It is a creative, destructive technology that is still in its infancy, yet breaking and remaking everything in its path. We are all on a journey, not just the privileged few, and technology will take us to a destination that is defined by the limits of our creativity, our confidence and our courage."

Interesting observation. Note that we're engaging in what Murdoch calls the "digital future" right now, and that the article we're observing and commenting on is from one of the old mass-media giants(UK), The Guardian. Lots of potential energy in this thread.

For someone with the profile of Murdoch, his lineage is remarkably difficult to pin down. His mother's maiden name was Green - certainly Jewish sounding - but I have received info that she was educated at St Catherine's School, in Toorak Melbourne and Clyde School, Woodend. I myself am still waiting for clear evidence from a usually unimpeachable source who has attested to Murdoch's Jewishness.
If and when it arrives, I shall certainly post it.

Murdoch’s international media network owns more than 175 newspapers and magazines on three continents, publishes 40 million papers a week and dominates the newspaper markets in Britain, Australia and New Zealand.
A “close friend” of the accused Israeli war criminal and prime minister Ariel Sharon, Murdoch and his media network are well known for supporting Israel’s right-wing Likud Party and the Anglo-American “war on terrorism.” Less well known, however, is the fact that Murdoch produced a television program in 2000, which predicted with uncanny accuracy the attacks of 9/11.
Murdoch also has long-standing relationships with the key individuals who gained possession of the World Trade Center shortly before 9/11 * and who profited from its destruction. Repeated calls to Murdoch’s office by American Free Press to inquire about what he may have known or suspected about the possibility of such an attack were not returned....
When I first got on the internet, before 9/11 anyway, there was a link in Google or some other search engine to Rupert Murdoch getting an award - and I think the award was "Young jewish men of the year". At the time I just thought, oh, so he IS jewish. Years later I got interested in his true background, but never could find that link again.

I'm not disputing this. What is important here is that an old line media baron such as Murdoch now openly admits that the old (Jew controlled) system is crumbling. Existing newspapers and Televitz networks are losing readers and viewers in droves as the internet expands. Desperate measures are being enacted as the rats scurry around on their sinking media ships.

The $tarry-eyed capitalist in Murdoch (and Murdoch is a very savvy Capitalist) sees a bright future for the internet and internet journalism.

Newspapers may be dying. TV may shrink but it will never die. There will always be illiterates and people who are simply too lazy to type. I have a few relatives who are reasonably intelligent but use the television like a drug. They get home from work and MUST turn the box on so they can sit back, relax, and "do" something without really doing anything. They don't even seem to care what's on. Any sitcom, police drama, or movie is fine. Doesn't matter. If their cable channels all suddenly turned into QVC or C-span, theymight just turn the damn thing off, but short of that nothing will change them. Maybe a long-term power outage would do the trick. I doubt anything less will shake them out of it.

Angry members of MySpace, the personal file-sharing website for young adults, are accusing Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation of censoring their postings and blocking their access to rival sites.
The 38 million subscribers to MySpace, which News Corp bought for $629m (£355m) last July, discovered that when they wrote to each other about rival video-swapping site YouTube, the words were automatically deleted, and attempts to download video images from YouTube led to blank screens.
The intervention by News Corp in the traditionally open-access world of the web - in particular the alteration of personal user profiles - provoked a storm of angry posts in online "blogs".
"This is soooo like Fox and News Corp to try and secretly seal our mouths with duct tape," wrote "Alex" to Blog Herald.
The protests gathered pace, and when 600 MySpace customers complained and a campaign began to boycott the site and relocate to rival sites such as Friendster, Linkedin, revver.com and Facebook.com, News Corp relented and restored the links.
However, MySpace managers promptly shut down the blog forum on which members had complained about the interference. An online notice said the problem was the result of "a simple misunderstanding".
The explanation did not, however, calm the bloggers. "There was an outcry by some members after MySpace's acquisition by News Corp. People were afraid they might start monitoring or censoring MySpace," Ellis Yu wrote to the Blog Herald. "At the time, their CEO said nothing like that would happen. Well, now it has. MySpace was built on an open community and now they're trying to censor us, putting business interests above its members!"
"MySpace is supposed to be a personal forum!" wrote "makisha" at the blog site Supr.c.iliu.us. "Now it's owned by some corporation and it's being sensored [sic]! The beauty of it has been ruined. Better wise up MySpace or you're going to loose [sic] a good portion of your subscribers."
A spokesman for MySpace said it would not explain how the blocking of YouTube came about, nor how it was resolved, nor whether in future it would continue to block links to rival websites or censor messages between MySpace customers.
Mr Murdoch, 74, last week appointed 33-year-old Jeremy Philips to run News Corp's internet strategy and armed him with a $1bn fund to buy more sites.

I've always assumed that he had some Jewish background, but if it were proven that he was completely gentile, what difference would that make? Jews can't do everything themselves; they need shabbos goy help. Assuming Murdoch is not a Jew, how would he behave any differently if he suddenly became a Jew? The answer is: not any differently at all. He's functionally a Jew. I doubt he would have risen so far so fast were this not so. Consider rare cases of non-Jewish media moguls, like Ted Turner. In spite of his liberalism and trendy leftist politics, Turner was constantly mocked in the media as a loon, a crazy person, a redneck, a hick, and by implication, a crypto-antisemite. Murdoch, not so much!
