Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah received on Friday overnight the head of the Democratic Gathering MP Walid Jumblatt accompanied by his son Taymour as well as his parliamentary bloc's member MP Akram Chehayeb.

The meeting, also attended by the head of Hezbollah Liaison Committee Hajj Wafiq Safa, discussed latest local and regional developments, particularly Israeli threats to Lebanon and the region, as well as the joint US-Israeli exercises.

According to a joint statement, Sayyed Nasrallah and Jumblatt stressed the positivity of the two-day meeting between Saudi King Abdullah and Syrian President Bashar Assad. They also stressed the importance of Arab-Arab openness and the need to overcome crises in the Arab and Islamic world.

Both leaders welcomed any initiative aimed at helping the Lebanese cabinet formation including the results of the Saudi-Syrian summit. The conferees also agreed to move forward in all measures that consolidate the atmosphere of reconciliation and on the necessity of removing all obstacles preventing cabinet formation.

Regarding the relationship between Hezbollah and the Progressive Socialist Party, the statement noted that an evaluation took place of the phase that followed the first meeting between Sayyed Nasrallah and Jumblatt.

In this context, the meeting underlined the necessity to move forward in any effort that consolidates the atmosphere of reconciliation. The two leaders discussed the efforts the Joint Committee carried out so far between the two sides and agreed on the need to fulfill the remainder of these planned efforts as soon as possible.

"The two sides agreed to keep open and unbroken communication channels as well as continuous in order to achieve the joint objectives," the statement concluded.
