Leaders of five secession groups met in Vermont on January 14-15 to discuss strategies for increasing the momentum of the rapidly growing national secession movement. The North-South Secession Summit included representatives from the Middlebury Institute, Southern National Congress, League of the South, Second Vermont Republic, and Vermont Commons. The summit was held in conjunction with SVR’s banquet at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Montpelier celebrating Vermont Independence Day.
Television coverage of the summit included Russia Today (WorldWide), Radio Canada (French CBC), New England Cable News, Channel 5 News (NBC), and Northeast Kingdom TV. Video recordings of the talks by Kirkpatrick Sale and Stephen Morris on “The Vermont Village Green: Alternative to Empire” will soon be available from NEK TV.
At the Independence Day celebration SVR supporters heard a recording of Vermont folk singer Pete Sutherland’s lively secession song “Two Hundred Years Is Long Enough.”
The group voted unanimously for a resolution recognizing the Lakota Indians as a separate and independent nation. In addition to pledging solidarity and support for the Lakota, the resolution encouraged other Native American tribes to seek independence from the United States.
The Vermont summit concluded with the announcement by Kirkpatrick Sale that the Middlebury Institute would sponsor a nationwide survey of all fifty states to ascertain the extent to which secession is supported nationally as well as by individual states. The poll will be conducted by the national opinion research firm SurveyUSA.
The Second Vermont Republic will hold its second Statewide Convention in the House Chamber of the State House on November 7, 2008.

The Western democracy of today is the forerunner of Marxism which without it would not be thinkable. It provides this world plague with the culture in which its germs can spread.
