23/07/2009 In harmony with the reconciliatory climate prevailing in the country between the leaderships of the main parties and movements, a consultative and coordinative meeting was held Thursday at the headquarters of the Lebanese army intelligence between representatives of Hezbollah as well as AMAL and Future movements.
The meeting was called by Lebanese army intelligence chief Colonel George Khamees to discuss Beirut security and measures needed to be taken to ensure stability of the city.
During the meeting, the attendees praised the Lebanese Army for the role it's playing to contain the security incidents in the Lebanese capital. They pointed to the necessity of completing the process of removing the pictures and slogans from Beirut streets.
The various representatives also agreed on the necessity to abide by the reconciliatory climate and transfer it to the popular bases. They pointed to the necessity of holding meeting between their parties' cadres and officials as well as organizing joint tours to the public places especially in the sensitive regions.
The attendees also called on the security forces to handle quickly any security incident that might take place and limit it within its geographic location. They concluded by urging all rival families to hold reconciliations in order to guarantee the return of any family who might have left their homes during the incidents' phase.
The meeting was attended by Colonel Khamees as well as Colonel Jihad Hasan, Lieutenant Colonel Imad Kahloul, Hezbollah representative Imad Kahloul, AMAL representative Ali Jaber and Future Movement representative Maher Abou Al-Khoudoud.
MASHNOUQ: SUCH MEETINGS DO NOT REPRESENT US!
Beirut MP Nuhad Mashnouq, however, criticized the gathering which "reminded us of security committee meetings during the Lebanese civil war."
"Such meetings do not represent the Future bloc neither Future Movement nor the people who are loyal to former Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri," Mashnouq stressed.
He told LBC TV that the presence of a Future Movement representative was "devoted to a reality which is unacceptable in principle by the Future bloc."
Yet, a responsible source within the Future Movement told Al-Manar that Mashnouq's statement represents his own opinion and therefore, it doesn't represent the official stance of his movement. "The Future movement adopts the final statement reached by the attendees whether in shape or content," the well-informed source highlighted.
