On Monday, a judge ruled that controversial former Sheriff [color="Navy"]Joe Arpaio was in criminal contempt of court after he bypassed a court order demanding he stop rounding up individuals law enforcement suspected were in the country illegally.
In the ruling, U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton accused Arpaio of intentionally violating the earlier court order, something Arpaio denies doing. “They have demonstrated a persistent disregard for the orders of this Court, as well as an intention to violate and manipulate the laws and policies regulating their conduct,” Snow wrote, according to AZFamily.com.
While Arpaio, who had been sheriff of Arizona's Maricopa County, admitted to civil contempt in 2015, he said his violation was not intentional. That order came in 2011 when Judge Murray Snow told Arpaio to stop using immigration status as a basis for arresting people.
