District Attorney In Davidson County To Review Autopsy Report In Inmate Death

Lexington, NC -- An autopsy report says an inmate who died in the Davidson County jail was a homicide victim.
The autopsy says 28-year-old Carlos Claros Castro of Thomasville suffered both severe head trauma and asphyxiation.
He died January seventh during a struggle with jailers who tried to take a fiberglass mop handle away from him.
The autopsy released yesterday showed several bruises on Claros Castro's head and body, bleeding in the brain and neck, wounds from Taser guns and evidence of asphyxiation. His body also showed signs of many other cuts and bruises.
Davidson County Sheriff David Grice declined to comment on the autopsy results. He says results of an internal investigation that's almost complete won't be released because it involves personnel issues.
District Attorney Garry Frank says he needs more information before deciding whether to pursue charges.
