Update: No immigration charges against hotel in Hampton murder case
Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have announced a hotel at the center of a murder investigation will not face charges for employing illegal immigrants.
Hampton, 21, was found dead on Saturday. She had been missing a little over a week. The Alabama woman was in Knoxville to help open a restaurant.
Wednesday, a murder warrant was issued for Miranda. Miranda is one of two admitted illegal immigrants arrested for forgery at the Lovell Road hotel where Hampton was last seen.
Miranda is now held on a count of first-degree felony murder. The warrant indicates he is held on $1 million bond.
In a jailhouse arraigment on Wednesday morning, Miranda was informed of the new charges against him and given a court date of October 10.
The warrant also reveals Miranda's wife, Rosa Rodriguez Hernandez, turned over bloody clothing to police. It also indicates that Miranda's key card was used to enter Hampton's room during the early morning hours of Sept. 20.
The medical examiner's office has indicated in a preliminary report the cause of death was strangulation.
Police are awaiting the results of forensic tests on evidence recovered during the investigation. Meanwhile, investigators can not confirm if Hampton was sexually assaulted.
The other man arrested for forgery, Rogelio Melchor, may or may not face charges in connection to Hampton's death, depending on the outcome of evidence analysis.

"This may not be the only charge that is filed. There's a possibility there could be more charges coming as we move forward in the investigation, and the information we have and additional information from the medical examiner's office as well as TBI will dictate additional charges in the future," Knoxville Police Department spokesperson Darrell DeBusk said.
The Days Inn General Manager Nick Patel did not want to talk on camera, but he is looking into improving the hotel's hiring procedures and security.
Patel confirms Miranda was a housekeeper at the hotel.
Patel is also concerned for the safety of Miranda's wife and 18-month-old daughter.
Police arrested Miranda and Melchor the weekend of Hampton's disappearance. Investigators say the men had fake social security cards that looked very close to authentic, but proved to be fraudulent.
Patel says he and his staff are cooperating with investigators and their hearts and prayers are with the Hampton family. He issued a statement Wednesday.
I would like to wholeheartedly express my sorrow for the events that have unfolded this past week. Our prayers are with the family and friends of Jennifer Hampton. It is a most tragic occurrence and I cannot express enough, my deepest sympathy. We have fully cooperated with the leading authorities and will continue to do so to make sure that justice is served. For questions about the on going investigation please contact Steve Still at the Knoxville Police Dept (865-215-7014). We will continue to pray for Ms. Hampton's family.
Valentino Miranda worked as a housekeeper at the Days Inn, as did his wife. Miranda is now charged with the murder of Jennifer Lee Hampton.
ICE officials said the Days Inn acted in good faith in its hiring. ICE spokesperson Temple Black said the fraudulent document looked authentic. They are now working to determine what will happen regarding Miranda's wife and 18-month-old daughter, who lived with him at the Days Inn.
