Indictment against former Seminole County tax collector alleges child sex trafficking, ‘sugar daddy’ relationships

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. —
A new federal indictment against former Seminole County Tax Collector Joel Greenberg charges him with child sex trafficking and claims he used his position to access information about people he was in “sugar daddy” relationships with.

The former Seminole County tax collector has been indicted on eight new counts. Seven of them are connected to prior charges for which he was arrested in June, and indicted a second time last month.

One of the new charges involves a teenage girl, according to Greenberg's attorney, who spoke with WESH 2 News.

The indictment charges Greenberg with sex trafficking of children, or by force or coercion.

According to a federal indictment, Greenberg used his access to Florida’s Driver and Vehicle Information Database to obtain personal information of people with whom he was engaged in “sugar daddy” relationships with.

The indictment alleges Greenberg used motor vehicle records to produce a fake ID and “facilitate his efforts to engage in commercial sex acts.”

Investigators claim that sometime between May 2017 and November 2017 Greenberg enticed and solicited a minor he knew was under the age of 18.

Greenberg's attorney, Mark Horwitz said the sex trafficking allegation involves a girl over 14 and not 18.

"We vigorously deny the allegations and we look forward to proving that at trial,” Horwitz said.

It’s the latest in a slew of legal troubles for Greenberg, who resigned as tax collector in June.

In the stalking case, prosecutors allege Greenberg mailed fake letters to a school and made a false Twitter account to damage a political opponent.

Indictments say Greenberg pretended the letters were sent by a "very concerned student" who had information that his opponent had engaged in sexual misconduct with a student.
