By VALERIE KALFRIN -- The Tampa Tribune

TAMPA - Police today charged a 16-year-old with felony battery on a law enforcement officer, accusing him of tossing a firecracker that singed the leg of an officer’s pants and ignited the floorboard of a patrol car.

Officers found Remus Randall at his mother’s home in Tampa about 11 a.m. ... He also is charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief, for the damage to the patrol car, plus unrelated warrants, she said.

... tossed a firecracker in the Robles Park area about 9:14 p.m. Wednesday, striking Officer Timothy Gaddis in the leg. The device exploded, causing a burn mark on the officer’s pants, then bounced into Gaddis’ patrol car and burned the floorboard, police said.

The firecracker caused about $100 in damage to the patrol car, police said. Gaddis was not serious injured, although he was checked out at Memorial Hospital afterward because of loud ringing in his ears, police said.
