The attorney general's office says it will review a request for amnesty for Tawana Brawley's mother so she can commemorate the 20th anniversary of her daughter's case in New York without being arrested.

This review comes the day after the Daily News reported that Glenda Brawley and her husband, Ralph King, are asking state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and Gov. Spitzer to reopen their daughter's case and unseal files they say have never been made public.

There is a fugitive warrant out in New York for Glenda Brawley's arrest dating back to her refusal to testify in the 1988 Dutchess County grand jury trial, which determined there was no evidence her daughter was raped.

She has been living out of state ever since. Her now disbarred lawyer, Alton Maddox Jr., sent a letter to Cuomo requesting amnesty for Brawley. "On Nov. 28, the black community will recognize those twenty years of struggle," Maddox wrote. "Our community is seeking the appearance of Glenda Brawley in New York City on Nov. 28 without fear of arrest."

"We have yet to receive the letter, but will review the letter once we do," said Jeffrey Lerner, a spokesman for Cuomo.

"It is where some of our greatest supporters are," Brawley said in an interview near her home in Claremont, Va. "But I wouldn't say New York is one of my favorite places."

Maddox, who was disbarred in 1990 for refusing to attend hearings relating to his conduct in the Brawley case, is planning an event for the anniversary through his organization, the United African Movement.
