Bavaria's Koenigssee lake is rumoured to hold Nazi treasures, but officials said the ingot was from a different period.

A teenage girl found a gold bar worth £11,500 while swimming in a German lake which, according to legend, holds Nazi treasures.

The 16-year-old holidaymaker was diving in Bavaria's Koenigssee lake on Friday when she saw the ingot, which weighs 500g (1lb), glimmering in the water about two metres under the surface and gave it to police.

Rumours have grown the gold bar is part of a legendary hoard that supposedly hidden in the lake, not far from Hitler's Obersalzberg mountain retreat.

But German officials say the gold bar has nothing to do with the Nazis and was from a different time period.
