I think that's FAR worse than the white cop that gave a nigger a ticket for running a red light and leading him on a high speed chase. Yet, the controlled media hassled that guy into quitting after he was already suspended.

All applicants who want to work in Tennessee schools will be checked for warrants now, even if they were never arrested.

The policy change, which will affect about 20,000 applicants annually, comes after the arrest of Ronald Boykin Jr., a Metro Nashville teacher who passed three background checks even though he was wanted in a sex crime case involving Chattanooga children.

Charges against Boykin did not show up because the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation did not search a national database of warrants in his background check. Reviewed instead were arrests, convictions, the Tennessee sex offender registry and statewide restraining orders.

Days after The Tennessean outlined what went wrong in the Boykin case, TBI officials announced they were expanding background checks to include a search for warrants.

"We can't allow that to happen again, and we'll do everything we can to make sure it doesn't," Kristin Helm, spokeswoman for the agency, said Wednesday. "One teacher like that is one too many."

Boykin was arrested on March 22 after police pulled him over for disobeying a traffic sign. Metro police searched Boykin's name and discovered the warrants. Since his arrest on the Chattanooga charges, two students have accused the Donelson Middle School teacher of sexual abuse.

Warrants were not included in background checks because state law requires a fingerprint-based check, according to TBI officials. To search for warrants, the applicant's name — not a fingerprint — must be searched in the National Crime Information Center database.

The law enforcement official must then verify the name is not a duplicate and matches the applicant's identity. The TBI is trying to determine if the warrant searches will carry an additional cost and whether additional personnel will be needed.

The TBI conducted about 27,000 background checks on school workers in 2008, and 5,771 of those were for teachers, Helm said.
