Officer fatally shoots teen at Dallas rail station

DALLAS — A 15-year-old boy was fatally shot by an officer for the Dallas rail system when the teen jumped from the bushes at a station and attacked the officers, officials said.
Two female Dallas Area Rapid Transit officers were patrolling the station in South Dallas about 3:20 a.m. Sunday when the teen attacked one of the officers, DART spokesman Morgan Lyons said.
The officer battled off the attacker, who then charged the second officer. That officer shot the teen once in the neck.
The Dallas Police Department identified the victim as Bobby Walker. He was pronounced dead at a Dallas hospital.

Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting, said Dallas police Senior Cpl. Janice Crowther.
She said it was unclear if Walker was armed. Walker ignored the officers' pleas for him to stop the attack, Crowther said.
She identified the DART officer who opened fire as Nekesha Owens.
Owens and the other officer were placed on paid administrative leave.
"It's unfortunate when something like this happens and an officer has to resort to that to protect themselves," Lyons said in a story posted Sunday on The Dallas Morning News Web site.
Walker's family members questioned whether the shooting was necessary. They had reported Walker as a missing person a few days ago when he didn't come home from school on Thursday.
"He wasn't violent. He wasn't a child who was getting in and out of trouble with drugs or anything like that, so we're just really not understanding what's going on," Walker's mother, Temeka Walker, told Dallas television station WFAA.
Officials said it was the first fatal shooting by a DART police officer in the department's 18-year history.
