Woman Claims Man Beat Her And Baby

PHILADELPHIA -- A south Philadelphia man has been arrested for the brutal beating of his newborn baby.

Police were called to the 400 block of Durfor Street around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday for a call of verbal domestic dispute. Instead, they discovered a woman had been beaten and an 8-day-old baby girl had wounds to her head that were so critical, she had to be rushed to the hospital.

A neighbor said the baby's mother ran across the street and asked her for help.

"I heard her say, 'I have to take the baby to the hospital because he hit my baby,'" said a neighbor.

According to police, the woman drove herself and the baby to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. The woman was treated for a fat lip and other minor cuts and bruises. The baby is in serious condition at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia with a fractured skull.

[color="Red"]Police arrested Raymont Taylor, 35.

Taylor did not have a prior arrest record. He has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and assault.
