A young DeKalb County mother and her boyfriend are facing charges after the woman's newborn baby was found abandoned early Thursday in a storm drain.
DeKalb County Jail Landis Stewart-Moore, 19, was charged with first degree child cruelty after his girlfriend's newborn baby was found in a storm drain.
Investigators search the area where the baby was initially thought to have been left.
The 18-year-old woman went to a local hospital early Thursday and reported that she had just given birth at a Wesley Chapel Road gas station and had left the baby in a nearby garbage dumpster, police said.
A search of the dumpster turned up no baby, but when police interviewed the woman's 19-year-old boyfriend, he told them that he had put the baby in a storm drain, DeKalb police spokesman Jason Gagnon said.
The boyfriend led police to the storm drain along Grand Pines Drive, where the baby boy was found, Gagnon said.
Gagnon said the baby was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.
