Mom Arrested In Car Wash Spraying
High-Pressure Hose Used To Calm Child, Woman Claims

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A mother videotaped at an Orlando car wash blasting her 2-year-old daughter with a high-pressure hose was arrested on Friday.

Niurka Ramirez turned herself in to police Thursday afternoon after seeing extensive media coverage concerning the incident, which took place at the Magical Carwash, located at 11105 Bloomfield Drive in Orlando.

Deputies said they believe it is a case of abuse and criminal charges are appropriate.

"We feel comfortable with our case at this point," Orange County sheriff's Cmdr. Matt Irwin said. "And, certainly we wouldn't have arrested her or charge her with anything if we didn't. Truthfully, the reason why we've taken so much time is to try to confirm and corroborate what the videotape seems to show."

Ramirez, who is pregnant, claimed she sprayed the girl to calm the child's temper tantrum, Orange County sheriff's deputies said.

"She indicated to the detective that the child had a temper tantrum and she used the pressure washer to punish the child -- or in her words -- to calm the child down," Orange County sheriff's Sgt. John Allen said.

The hose delivers 1,200 pounds of water per square inch, Local 6 reported.

Ramirez will likely be charged with child abuse, child neglect and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
