The following 2 letters-to-editor and editorial were published in a March 07 edition of the Smithfield Times newspaper, Smithfield, VA as a result of a recent distribution of several hundred WPLs by Ron Doggett and Ironguard1940.

"Spreading hatred

Dear Editor:

I am writing you as a person that feels abused. At the same time, I want to apologize for something that I did not do to my friends and our community.

I feel as a citizen of Smithfield that we were all abused when the first white supremacist paper was placed on the first doorstep. The idea that our citizens would have to ask themselves why they should receive hate literaure disturbs me. The thought that a parent might have to explain this to a child who picked it up upsets me to no end. It is a stark reminder that extremism can reach into our community at any time.

I want to apologize to my community lest anyone think I or anyone I may have influenced would in some way condone the distribution of hate literature. I abhor it.

We were shocked on September 11th by Al-Qaida actions. Their actions were taken by people indoctrinated by extremist beliefs. So was the Oklahoma city bombing.

Well, as horrible as their actions were, more harm has been done by other extremists. As reprehensible as Al-qaida has been, more harm has been done in this world by the Nazis in this country by the Klan.

The hate literature should serve as a warning. We cannot condone injustice or intolerance anywhere. After all, our community is part of the community of mankind. It is where we live and raise our children, and our grandchildren to hopefully live a better tomorrow. I do hope each and every pulpit and each community leader shares these thoughts with those they influence.

"Racists find no comfort here

Dear Editor:

To the person or persons who threw racist newspapers in our yards last week, we may not know who you are, but we know who you follow. You will find in our community good and decent people who do not fear you or your kind. Every day as we pray "deliver us from evil", we know that our yards can be soiled by your trash or our worldly bodies could be harmed, but you cannot have what you want.

If you believe the lies and hate you spread, you will not like me, my friends, or my neighbors. You will find no comfort here unless you purge the poison from your heart. I pray that you too will be delivered from evil.

Talbott Jones,
Smithfield, VA (end of letter to editor)
