India is experiencing an influx of tourists from Europe and Britain to receive fertility treatment. The ads are brazen: `Healthy young women superovulated exclusively for you!' The fees are half those of clinics in Britain, even accounting for flights and hotels. And India's fertility industry is unregulated, leaving doctors free from legal and ethical constraints. Raekha Prasad reports.
Quite disturbing:
Aleksandrova began surfing foreign fertility clinics' websites two years ago. Impressed with the Indian doctor's responses to her inquiries, she flew to Mumbai the following April to investigate further. The prospect of raising a mixed-race child doesn't faze her. The daughter of a diplomat, Aleksandrova was born in Pakistan and has fond memories of her childhood friends. "I'm curious to know how the baby's going to look, being Danish-Indian," she says.
Two things: what makes women do stupid things like this, why would they not use their own eggs, and honestly, do most dislike sex this much?!
