SOUTH BERWICK, Maine (AP) -- Maine State police believe a boy's body was left along a dirt road hours before it was discovered over the weekend.

Lt. Brian McDonough told reporters Monday that investigators believe the body was placed at the scene Saturday morning, and that the boy had died a couple of hours earlier. His body wasn't found until about 5 p.m. Saturday.

Spokesman Steve McCausland says a full team of detectives is working to identify the boy. He says tips are coming in from across the country.

Police also are examining surveillance tape in New Hampshire and Maine as part of their investigation. The boy, believed to be between 4 and 6 years old, was 3 feet, 8 inches tall, weighed 45 pounds and had dirty blond hair and blue eyes.
