NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A man who pleaded guilty to vandalizing two Norfolk synagogues with anti-Semitic stickers last year was sentenced to serve five years in prison Friday.

John Edward Grogan, 30, was had 15 years of a 20 years sentenced suspended, resulting in five total years, after being convicted for two counts of injury to a church or cemetery, and two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony. Grogan pleaded guilty to these charges in February.

In April 2009, more than 60 anti-Semitic stickers were found on doors, windows and signs of Temple Israel Synagogue and Beth Messiah Synagogue--both of which are on Granby Street. Stickers were also found on other Norfolk synagogues.

Grogan's co-defendant, Christopher John Brooks, 25, pleaded guilty in early May to one count of injury to a cemetery or church. He was sentenced to five years, but those years were suspended and only faced time served in prison. Brooks is currently on probation.
