I received a very unexpected but joyful surprise with a phone call last evening. It was from a fellow down in Georgia, a WN by the name of Micheal Weaver, his legal name is Micheal Carothers. Some of you may be familiar with Mike, some perhaps not.

Here is a link to a story recounting his ordeal. He may have made some poor decisions but there at the same time is no question he was targeted with especially harsh punishment because of his WN activism. Note that he, like I, has resigned from the NA. The lack of support, and when I say support I don't mean monetary but simply moral support for Mike was one factor that lead me to resign, the head man of the NA basically acted like this dedicated activist never existed after he was arrested.

His release came as a surprise to Mike himself, there was no forewarning of it before yesterday from what he said. He had been in prison well past his original release date due to the fact that he had no where to go and I believe also because he had appealed his conviction, by appealing it he vacated his guilty plea, or was trying to do so, things have moved very slowly with this. He is banished, yes banished, from his hometown and since he had no other place to go he wanted to explore getting the conviction and unjust punishment overturned so he could return home.

Mike met a kind individual last night who put him up for the night, he called me from their residence. He was supposed to meet today with some relatives, he has to register with his probation officer and cannot at the present provide an address as he is essentially homeless for the time being, he can't even provide the address of a local homeless shelter without ID, his relatives are supposed to meet him today with that ID.

I am making a pretty significant personal decision to offer Mike refuge, a place to stay, since he essentially has no where to go. I am one who values my privacy and like to keep to myself alot of the time but I cannot fathom not helping out Mike given the situation he is in. He, like I, see WN ideals and principles as something to publically stand for, to live and breathe, and Mike had for years before his time in prison promoted our ideals through countless flyer distros and other outreach, including public outreach at gun shows. He earned the moniker the "Weaver Army" for his tireless effort.

Again I have not spoken with him since last night so I am not sure how things have progressed today. I am not sure if one can serve out probation in another state, especially if it is not a bordering state. He also still has an appeal of his conviction pending, according to what a lawyer told him he claims they are trying to avoid having to hear his appeal. This town he is from, Columbus Georgia, is evidently a town run by some crooked people.

I will keep you all updated, I am excited for him and very excited about the possible activism projects we can engage in with our energies and efforts combined. Those prospects are helping me to get past the fact that I will be sharing my living space for a while. Again there is no way I could let the guy be homeless and live with myself.

I would ask about what the norm is on whether or not one on probation is allowed to leave the state or not, it probably is different state to state, but I am sure I will have an anwser to that soon enough. If he can't leave the state I suppose I will try to help him out with some funds, not sure what else I could do. Perhaps an activist in Georgia could assist.
