Nope, that wouldn't have been sufficient. I used to work for the Air Force as an intelligence analyst (Foreign Technology Division, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, Oct 1982-86). I can tell a US-made Titan or Minuteman nuclear RV from a Soviet SS-18 RV (mod 1,2, or 3) at a glance. Imagine how good at WMD parts & parcel identification a real specialist in the field would be. Americans who get their propaganda from Fox "News" or are told what to think by right-wing talk radio hosts are outraged at news reports that U.S. troops planned and carried out the rape and murder of a young Iraqi woman. They are not outraged that the troops committed the deed; they are outraged that the media reported it. These "conservatives," who proudly wear their patriotism on their sleeves, dismiss the reports of the incident as a Big Lie floated by "the anti-American liberal media" in order to demoralize Americans and reduce public support for the war.

Playing to this audience, Col. Jeffrey Snow, a U.S. brigade commander in Baghdad, told AFP News that news coverage could cause the U.S. to lose the war. In other words, what we are doing in Iraq cannot stand the light of day, so reporters must not report or the word will get out.

Many Bush supporters believe that truth is not on our side and must be suppressed. Yet, they support a war that is too shameful to report.

I have made it clear in my columns that Bush supporters are not true conservatives. They are criminals with the same low intelligence and morals as Lincoln's enthusiastic supporters. And they are just as resistant to facts.

It was not the "liberal media" but the investigating U.S. military officials who told the Associated Press that the rape and murder of the young woman and her family appeared "totally premeditated," that the soldiers noticed the woman on their patrols and studied her and her family for a week before separating the woman from her family and raping her. After having their way with her, the soldiers murdered her and tried to burn her body with a flammable liquid in order to cover up their foul deed. The soldiers' cover-up attempt also involved the murder of other members of the murdered rape victim's family, including a child.

The criminals were turned in by other U.S. soldiers who knew of the monstrous crime. According to the Associated Press (USA Today, June 30, 2006), one of the soldiers has admitted his role in the rape and murder.

The soldiers cannot be said to be guilty until they are tried and found guilty. However, the U.S. military usually attempts a cover-up of such incidents and only admits to the facts after the press gets hold of them. This time, however, the investigating officials themselves gave the story to the Associated Press.

Many Americans are so unsophisticated that they refuse to believe anything bad about their country. They regard acceptance of unpalatable truths as disloyalty. This failure of American character is why Bush has been able to get away with transgressions that scream out for his impeachment and trial as a war criminal.

The premeditated rape and murders are just the latest in the long line of horrific war crimes from Abu Ghraib to Haditha. Bush supporters are still in denial about each incident. It is amazing that Bush supporters think we have a John Wayne military when, according to news reports, recruitment problems have resulted in the military accepting felons, drug users, thugs, low-IQ high school dropouts, and illegal Mexicans promised green cards for signing up. Apparently, the same people who make America's streets unsafe for Americans make Iraqi streets unsafe for Iraqis. In response to the declining caliber of new recruits, some of our best troops are refusing to reenlist. Several have written to me that "the Army has left them."

Whoever put out that propagandistic slogan, "support the troops," and the ribbon decals was a master propagandist. "Support the troops" means to deny the reality of the war and the behavior of the troops.

To this day, the Bush regime and the neocon kike worshippers have not told us the reason for their invasion of Iraq, the destruction of its towns and infrastructure, and the slaughter of its citizens. Every reason Bush has given has proved to be a lie.

There is no more reason for U.S. troops to be shooting up Iraq than to be shooting up Canada, Scotland, Holland, Spain, Taiwan, Florida, Virginia, or California. We are killing Iraqis for no other reason than that they resist our invasion and occupation of their country.

It is proof of the collapse of American morals and the fallen character of the American people that the American public and its elected representatives in Congress refuse to rein in the Bush regime and hold it responsible for its monstrous crimes.

America has become a land of evil. The rest of the world hates and despises us. And we are going to pay a terrible price for it. Bush's belief that our superpower status makes us immune to the opinion of others goes beyond hubris into insanity.

I was surprised when the pictures of Steven Green were posted: he isn't Black. Blacks probably commit more than 90% of this kind of crime (raping children), but here we have someone who, if he isn't Jewish, is White. And that might be why we're getting a look at him.

There were four other soldiers involved in this rape/murder, and there are dozens of other crime accusations of this same kind. Who did the rest of the raping and murdering? What percentage of all the rapes and murders is being done by White soldiers, by Black soldiers, by Latino soldiers, by Jewish soldiers? What are the per capita breakdowns; i.e., how prone is the average White, Black, Latino or Jewish soldier to commit a rape or a murder (or other war crime)?

Sometimes they claim that somebody is a hero because they did something stupid and got captured. Like those GI's who took a wrong turn in a jeep and ran straight into an ambush. What's heroic about that? But they were celebrated as heroes when they were recovered.

This war isn't all that "hot" at the front. In a real ground combat war, soldiers' dead bodies pile up in a hurry. In Iraq, that kind of war is over (for now), but some of the defeated still have guns and are sniping at our troops.

Report: Rape victim was afraid of U.S. soldiers [color="Red"][Gee, I wonder why]

The young woman at the heart of an alleged atrocity by members of the U.S. military knew she had attracted the attention of the soldiers who manned the checkpoint near her home, neighbors say. And she didn't like it.

Neither did her family, and they made a plan to protect her, their neighbors told reporters over the weekend.

But it wasn't enough.

Abeer Qasim Hamza is the young woman identified in news reports as the alleged target of Steven D. Green, the former Army private who was charged Monday with her rape and the killing of her and three other family members in March.

A U.S. military official has described the attack on the family's home south of Baghdad as "totally premeditated," telling The Associated Press that the soldiers apparently "studied" the family for about a week before carrying out the raid.

The affidavit detailing the allegations against Green doesn't name his alleged victims, but it says the woman he's accused of raping was estimated by her attackers to be about 25.

People in her town, including the mayor of Mahmoudiya, tell reporters she was actually a teenager. A death certificate viewed by The Washington Post puts Abeer at 15.

Whatever her age, she was described as pretty by the townspeople, according to the Post. And she knew she had attracted the notice of the soldiers. She had to pass through their traffic checkpoint, about 200 yards from her home, almost every day.

Abeer's mother told a neighbor, Omar Janabi, that the soldiers had made advances toward her daughter and that the young woman was scared of them, Janabi told the Post.

The mother asked Janabi if Abeer could sleep at his house, in case the soldiers came for her at night. Janabi said yes, but he told the mother that her fears were unfounded. "I told her the Americans would not do such a thing," Janabi told reporters.

The next day, according to the military, they did.

Army investigators outlined their evidence against Green and several other soldiers to an FBI agent, who described their case in a federal affidavit filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Charlotte.

Green and the soldiers at his checkpoint were drinking on the night of March 12, when they decided to raid the young woman's house and rape her, the affidavit says.

Green and at least one other soldier had been there before, the affidavit says. It describes how three of the soldiers changed into dark clothes, armed themselves with rifles and a shotgun, and left one man behind to monitor the radio.

They returned with clothes covered in blood, the soldier left behind told investigators. When he asked what had happened, Green and the others said they had killed the family with an AK-47 they found in the house, the court documents say.

The incident was kept quiet until late last month, when a soldier in a counseling session revealed the details. Investigators interviewed other members of the group, who identified Green and another soldier as the rapists and Green as the triggerman.

Two of the soldiers who were in the house say Green took Abeer's father, mother and little sister into a bedroom and shot them with the AK-47, according to the affidavit, and he and the other soldier then raped Abeer, and Green shot her in the head.

News reports Monday said the family included two sons, ages 8 and 12, who discovered the bodies when they came home from school. They were screaming in the front yard of their house when police arrived.

Janabi, the neighbor, told the Post he was one of the first people at the house after the attack.

He said he'd found Abeer's burned body in a corner.

Soldiers, Civilian Deaths

More than 30 soldiers have been implicated in wrongful deaths of Iraqi civilians. Those incidents include the 2005 deaths of 24 men, women and children in the western town of Haditha and the killing of three detainees in May north Baghdad.
