KVELLER (via JTA) — By now, you likely know all about Kamala Harris’s husband, Jewish dad and future Second Gentleman (Second Dude?) Doug “Dougie” Emhoff. Not only is he the spouse of the first-ever woman to serve as Vice President of the United States, he’s also the first Jewish person to fill this role. Such naches!

But as a publication that celebrates Jewish families, we’d be remiss to overlook President-elect Joe Biden’s Jewish relatives — of which there are many. In fact, all three of his kids married into Jewish families — which means Biden is the grandfather of some pretty adorable Jewish kids.

Now, as far as we know, Biden’s extended family isn’t going to be an active part of his administration. But we’re still going to see them on stage at events and such. And so, in order to help you point and kvell, here are the Jewish members of the President-elect’s family.

Accusations of abuse allegedly inflicted by former Representative Katie Porter of California have been resurfaced by Republicans after Porter's threat to leave an interview with a Los Angeles television news station went viral on social media.

Newsweek reached out to Porter’s gubernatorial campaign for comment via email.

Porter, a Democrat, is running in the open race to succeed Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom to lead California—the most populous state in the nation and home to one of the largest economies in the world. Backlash over the interview comes as she is working to consolidate Democratic support in the critical election ahead of next year’s primaries.

California gubernatorial contender Katie Porter once dumped scolding mashed potatoes on her then-husband’s head during a fight, resurfaced divorce documents allege as clips of her fiery temper continue to go viral.

The former Golden State congresswoman’s ex-hubby, Matthew Hoffman, filed for divorce in 2013 and detailed that the Democrat — who has a reputation for exploding at her staff — frequently abused him verbally and threw “toys, books and other objects” at him during their marriage, The Post previously reported.

Katie Porter admits her short temper in viral videos and mentions that she could have handled things in a different way.

Gubernatorial candidate Katie Porter, running for election in California, addressed her viral videos in which she was caught losing her temper. Two of Porter’s videos went viral; the candidate was seen shouting at a staff member and getting abrasive with a reporter.

During an interview with KLTA’s Inside California Politics, Porter was spotted regretting her behavior by admitting that she could have handled things in a better way. “When I look at those videos, I want people to know that I understand that I could have handled things better,” Porter said in the interview.

Porter refused to give a straightforward answer when asked repeatedly by KLTA’s journalist about more such videos to emerge. Porter said that she admits that she could have handled things differently and that she understands the problems of Californians.

President Donald Trump and Elon Musk have reacted with fury after two 15-year-olds charged in connection with the assault of former DOGE staffer Edward Coristine, better known as “Big Balls,” were spared jail time on Tuesday.

Associate Judge Kendra Briggs of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia gave the verdict.

Newsweek contacted the Superior Court of the District of Columbia for comment via telephone on Thursday outside regular office hours.

In August, Coristine was assaulted during an attempted carjacking in the Logan Circle neighborhood of Washington, D.C., while accompanied by a woman. Police arrested two 15-year-olds as they attempted to flee the scene.

Following the assault, the president said it was “time to federalize D.C.” and deployed National Guard troops across the city. Trump has since sought to replicate this strategy in other Democratic-run cities, such as Chicago and Portland, though he has faced legal setbacks.

On Tuesday, Briggs sentenced the two 15-year-olds who attacked Coristine to probation after they pleaded guilty to simple assault.

The boy received 12 months’ probation and was instructed to return home under house arrest, while the girl received nine months’ probation and was remanded to a young people’s shelter. The pair was also barred from contacting each other or spending time in D.C. beyond what was necessary for school, work or family commitments.

According to local network WUSA9, Briggs said she hoped the two 15-year-olds would learn from the experience and said the primary objective of juvenile court was to rehabilitate offenders.

Charlamagne tha God Sticks Hakeem Jeffries With Brutal Nickname

 

The radio host has given Jeffries a nickname that he may simply never recover from.

The Breakfast Club host and armchair political analyst Charlamagne tha God has a new nickname for Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries: AIPAC Shakur. The name is a combination of rapper Tupac Shakur’s name and a reference to Jeffries’s deep ties to the wealthy pro-Israel lobbying organization.

“I love having Minority Speaker Hakeem Jeffries,” said radio host and CNN contributor Claudia Jordan, referring to her previous talks and interviews with the New York representative. “Because you know, I’m a political nerd, like I love talking politics—”

“Charlamagne hates him,” DJ Envy chimed in.

‘You do?” said Jordan.

“I don’t hate him, I just don’t think he stands for anything,” Charlamagne said. “I think that he’s—I call him AIPAC Shakur.”

AIPAC Shakur is a very apt, and pretty funny nickname for Jeffires. The representative has received nearly $1 million dollars from AIPAC (to say nothing of other pro-Israel lobbies), has gone on multiple trips to Israel on the organization’s dime, and has always been a staunch supporter of Israel’s genocidal efforts.

As other Democrats level criticism at Israel’s judicial overhaul plan, the House minority leader is doubling down on his relationship with the Jewish state.

Over the weekend, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, the House minority leader, landed in Israel as the Jewish state prepared to mark Independence Day. As the nearby conferences of the World Zionist Congress and Jewish Federations were roiled by protests against the presence of Israeli politicians responsible for the country’s controversial judicial overhaul plan, the Brooklyn Democrat led a delegation of 11 other House Democrats to meet with US Ambassador to Israel Thomas Nides, Israeli President Isaac Herzog, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The group discussed “the need to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons” and Israel’s normalization of ties with Arab states, according to a press release from Netanyahu’s office.

Jeffries’s visit to Israel is hardly unprecedented. Israel has long been a favored travel destination for members of Congress from both parties because of the centrality of Israel to US foreign policy and the close ties Israel-advocacy groups have cultivated with lawmakers. Jeffries himself has traveled to Israel five times on AIPAC-sponsored trips since arriving to Congress in 2013, according to congressional travel records. This trip, however—which was funded by the US government—has added significance: It is his first foreign trip as leader of the House Democrats, a position that makes him responsible for securing Democratic votes for the US aid package to Israel and other Israel-related initiatives.

Amid a rare wave of Democratic criticism of the Netanyahu government’s attempts to curb the power of the Israeli judiciary, and recent polling suggesting that Democratic voters for the first time sympathize more with Palestinians than Israelis, Jeffries is solidifying his reputation as a reliable backer of the Jewish state.
